Privacy Policy

The public policy regarding the Portal of the Government of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is simple: No personal information will be collected from the User when accessing the Portal services, unless such information is provided voluntarily.
This statement informs the User what information is automatically collected; what the said information is collected for; the use given to it and with whom the information is shared; the alternatives available to the User to control the use of their personal information; how to gain access to their information, and the security measures used to protect the security of the information that is collected and stored in the database.

Information Collected Automatically.

When requesting services through the Portal of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Users are asked for personal information for the sole purpose of being able to provide the requested services and to verify the identity of the User. In addition, the Portal server automatically collects certain non-identifiable information about users of the Portal. Specifically, each time a request for a hypertext transmission protocol (http request) is received, information will be collected and saved in the files about the date and time of the request, the Internet protocol address from which the request originates and the purpose of the request.

What is personal information collected from users for

Personal information about users (for example, their name, email address, social security number, passport number, etc.) will be saved only if they decide to provide it freely and voluntarily. The personal information that the user voluntarily provides when accessing the services will be used only for the purpose of providing the requested services, verifying the identity of the User and ensuring the security and reliability of the transaction. In addition, such personal data may be used for administrative purposes of the Portal, in order to audit and evaluate the electronic management performance of the various public agencies and corporations of the government of Puerto Rico, in accordance with the provisions of 23 L.P.R.A. §§ 101-109.

How Users' Personal Information Is Used.

User information collected on or through the Portal of the Government of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico will not be sold or transferred to third parties. The personal information that the user provides on this Portal will be used only for the administration and management of the services offered therein and for other purposes described in this statement or on the site where the information is requested. Generic information may also be collected for statistical purposes and for the maintenance and improvement of the Portal. To that end, this information will be analyzed from time to time to determine the interests of users and the frequency with which our customers visit the sites and web pages of this Portal. The information collected for these purposes is in a format that does not allow the User to be personally identified.

Who is the personal information of users shared with.

Users' personal information may be shared with the agencies, agencies and public corporations of the Commonwealth with which the user wishes to carry out a transaction. In such cases, only the information that is necessary to carry out such a transaction will be disclosed. Information may also be disclosed to agencies (local and federal) responsible for maintaining law and order in Puerto Rico, only if such disclosure is authorized or required by applicable law or court order.

User alternatives to control the use of their personal information

In cases where the applicable legislation does not allow the disclosure of the User's personal information or where there is no court order, the Portal Administration may not share personal information with other people, unless it obtains express written authorization.

Access to collected personal information

Each User will have access to their information that has been collected on or through the Portal. The Portal administration undertakes to correct any errors relating to your personal information that you report to the following address: info@prits.pr.gov.

Protecting Collected Information

The Internet was originally designed as an open system with no security system. However, user information collected and stored will be protected and the Internet will not be used to provide services unless it can be done in a secure manner. For these purposes, reasonable precautions will be taken to maintain the security, confidentiality and integrity of the information collected on and through this portal. Occasionally, third parties will be hired to provide certain services with respect to the Portal and its database, to whom due demands will be made so as not to compromise the security, confidentiality and integrity of the personal information to which such contractors may have access during the course of performing their services.

Information for people under 18

Contact information will not be collected from children under 18 years of age (for example, name, address, email address or telephone number) without the prior consent of the person (s) with parental authority. Once consent is obtained, such information will be used only as necessary to carry out the requested transaction. The child's identifiable information will not be disclosed or shared, unless the person (s) with parental authority consent to that effect. Consent given to a minor's information can always be revoked.

Warning regarding the use of email

Email is not a secure medium for transmitting personal information. Therefore, the User is warned not to send personal information via email. The user will only be sent general information via email.
